The problem
Every organization runs on a few core processes: managing customers, managing people, collecting information and getting approvals. Spreadsheets and email handle them until they do not, and then data is duplicated, permissions are unclear and nobody trusts the reports.
Approach
- Start from the workflow, not the screen. Map who does what, in which order and with which permissions, then design the data and interface around it.
- One source of truth. Shared records are modeled once and referenced everywhere, so a change in one place is a change everywhere.
- Access by role. Permissions are part of the design from the start, not added after the first incident.
- Reports people can rely on. Reporting reads from the same consistent data the workflows write, so managers and teams see the same numbers.
Why it matters
Internal systems are judged by whether people stop working around them. That comes from getting the workflow and the data right, not from adding features.
